How Much Does a 15,000 Square Foot Metal Building Cost?

If you are planning on constructing a new building – whether its for commercial, government, or even private use – you will find that pre-engineered metal buildings offer superior design flexibility and affordability when compared to other conventional options. Here are just a few of the uses your 15,000 square foot metal building could be designed for:

  • Manufacturing Facilities
  • Storage Warehouses
  • Aircraft Hangars
  • Big Box Retailers
  • Recreational Buildings
  • And Much More!

And even if you’ve settled on the general space requirements for your metal building, you may be deciding on the best width and length combination for your land and project needs. It is important to understand that even if the eave height, accessories, and design options stay the same, the width and length of your building can significantly affect your price. Here are some examples:

How much does a 50’ x 300’ metal building cost?

The narrow width of this building means the mainframes can be made lighter to accommodate the same loads as a wider building, though the length of the building means more frame lines are needed. This works out to more steel overall and your 50’x 300’ metal building would cost between $85,530 and $92,660 before delivery – or between $5.70 and $6.18 per square foot for 15,000 square feet.

How much does a 60’ x 250’ metal building cost?

Wider but shorter than the previous example, your 60’ x 250’ has slightly heavier mainframes but less of them – making this building slightly lighter. This means that a 60’ x 250’ metal building would only cost between $79,650 and $86,280 before delivery. That’s only $5.31 to $5.75 per square foot!

How much does a 100’ x 150’ metal building cost?

The frames on this building are much wider than the previous examples, but has the fewest frame lines! This makes for a ‘middle-of-the-road’ option, with the 100’ x 150’ metal building pricing between $82,310 and $89,160 – or $5.49 to $5.94 per square foot.

With a building this wide, however, engineers can use center columns to drastically improve design efficiency. Adding center columns to your 100’ x 150’ metal building could save you as much as $10,570! That’s over a tenth of the original price!

Accessories and Insulation

Besides simply determining the overall shape of your building, you will also want to determine which accessories or special design features you will need. Not only are there a variety of doors, windows, and insulation options to choose from, but you may also need your building to accommodate cranes, hangar doors, or other special-case factors. Your metal building representative will be happy to answer any questions you may have about these options.

Fiberglass blanket insulation is a popular accessory due to its compatibility with a wide range of projects and the sheer energy savings it can generate. Metal buildings will last for decades, and insulation can potentially save you thousands of dollars over the long life of your building.

Fiberglass blanket insulation is available in a variety of thicknesses and thermal performances – with a white or black interior face that offers a clean look – but the current standard is 4” R-13 as it offers excellent value and can be installed between your framing and panel with minimum hassle.

By way of example, the materials you would need to insulate the roof and walls of your 15,000 square foot metal building with 4” R-13 insulation would only cost between $11,940 and $14,960!

The prices above were determined in August of 2019 and are subject to change. Building prices assume 18’ eave heights, clear span frames (unless noted otherwise), and erection in a non-snow area with typical, low windspeeds. They may vary due to local code requirements or special design elements.
