How Much Does a 12,000 Square Foot Metal Building Cost?

Pre-engineered metal buildings allow for larger structures at lower prices when compared to other conventional buildings, and this is due to efficient design using low-cost materials. Your 12,000 square foot metal building can be custom designed for an affordable price for any of the following:

  • Warehousing and Storage
  • Manufacturing
  • Office and Retail
  • Auto Garage
  • Aircraft Hangar
  • And Much More!

Depending on your land and/or the end use of your building, you may be interested in looking at the different widths and lengths your 12,000 square foot building can come in. Even as the eave height, accessories, and design options stay the same, the width and length of your building – or the use of center columns – can significantly affect your price. Here are some examples:

How much does a 100’ x 120’ metal building cost?

This building size is the widest example here and makes for a good ‘middle ground’ when it comes to pricing. The price of a 100’ x 120’ metal building is between $66,180 and $71,690 before delivery – that’s only $5.52 to $5.97 per square foot!

What if I add center columns?

With a building this wide, engineers can use center columns to help with the loads. This means lighter frames can be used – saving you money – and using center columns in a 100’ x 120’ metal building could save you as much as $7,210! This option is also the least expensive option among the examples in this article.

How much does an 80’ x 150’ metal building cost?

Slightly narrower and longer, these building dimensions make for a very efficient design. With the lowest cost clear span example here (no columns), the 80’ x 150’ metal building would price between $62,940 and $68,180 before delivery – or only $5.25 to $5.68 per square foot for 12,000 square feet.

What if I add center columns?

Because this building is narrower, the mainframes do not need as much help. Adding center columns to your 80’ x 150’ metal building will save around $670.

How much does a 60’ x 200’ metal building cost?

The narrowest but longest example here, the 60’ x 200’ metal building practically ties with the 80’ x 150’ example for pricing, and does not benefit from the use of center columns. Your 60’ x 200’ metal building would cost between $63,120 and $68,390 before delivery – or $5.26 to $5.70 per square foot.

What if I add center columns?

As mentioned, there are typically no savings to be found with the use of center columns in a building as narrow as the 60’ x 200’ example. Exceptions may include high snow load or collateral load projects, and your metal building representative will help you determine the best course of action!

Accessories and Insulation

Your metal building representative will also help you choose between a variety of accessories and design options depending on the end use of your building. There are a large variety of entry and overhead doors – in either utilitarian or aesthetic flavors – as well as ventilation, windows, and insulation to consider when designing your building.

Fiberglass blanket insulation, for example, is one of the most popular accessories as it can be used in any project and offers excellent potential for energy savings. Available with white or black interior facing and several thicknesses, the 4” R-13 option is the current standard due to its value and ease of installation.

Insulating the roof and walls of your 12,000 square foot metal building with 4” R-13 insulation would only cost between $9,950 and $11,580!

The prices above were determined in August of 2019 and are subject to change. Building prices assume 18’ eave heights, clear span frames (unless noted otherwise), and erection in a non-snow area with typical, low windspeeds. They may vary due to local code requirements or special design elements.
